Abstract
In the present investigation, magnetic activated
carbon (MAC) was prepared from coconut activated carbon, and the adsorption
potential of malachite green (MG) from an aqueous solution was explored. The effects of pH, adsorbent dosage, and
agitation time on MG adsorption were studied in batch experiments. Results showed the maximum adsorption of MG
on MAC at pH 3. Moreover, the adsorption
of MG increased with increasing MAC dosage, and constant adsorption was
observed at dosages of 0.2g and higher. Additionally, the adsorption of MG on MAC
occurred in a comparatively short time, and MG was adsorbed in 20 min of
agitation time. The maximum
adsorption capacity of 37mg/g for MAC was obtained from the Langmuir isotherm. Our results showed that MAC was an effective
adsorbent of MG from an aqueous solution.
