Abstract
There has been considerable interest
in using biomass materials as adsorbents for wastewater treatment. In this
work, cellulose acetate was selected as a base polymer for the electrospinning
process, and phosphorylated cellulose nonwoven fabric (PCnf)
was prepared as an adsorbent for harmful metal ions. Adsorption tests with
Cu(II) indicate that pseudo-second order kinetics model best fitted
experimental data, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 0.22 mmol/g. The selectivity
of PCnf toward 6 kinds of metal ions was evaluated in
nitric acid media by means of distribution ratio measurements; the order of
increasing affinity was found to be Cd(II) < Ca(II), Sr(II) < Cu(II) <
Zn(II) < Pb(II).
