@@Banana trees contain more than 80% non-potable water as sap. Sap presents challenges, as it is resistant to decay and difficult to convert into fertilizer. While sap primarily contains oxalates and phosphates, its reuse has not been explored. This study investigated the effects of oxalate and other compounds contained in banana sap. In this experiment, the concentration of oxalate and other compounds in the sap was 2757 } 831 [mgEkg?1]. We investigated rust removal effects on iron rust samples using this sap and commercially available products. Although performance differences were significant, the sap was found to remove rust. Furthermore, the potential for rust prevention was confirmed. Analysis using EDS and SEM suggested the involvement of phosphorus, leading to results indicating that rust prevention effects through phosphate coating formation can be expected.
